Oh THAT scoop. Like, facts. Riiight: Xochimilco is about 30 km south of el DF. I stayed in the Tulip Inn Ritz [For the record, not an actual "Ritz," which was fine by me and my credit card], near the Zocalo. I followed my hosts, so I don't remember exactly how we got there, but we took the ...something... line on the metro, transferred to a smaller train and we were there. Took an hour and change, and then we walked a couple blocks.
Man, these are weak directions. Are you going to Mexico City?
The short scoop: It is.
The double scoop: I went the day after the finest wedding I've ever attended. These canals are all that's left of the lake that used to be the Mexico City basin. We took the subway there [!], hired a boat and a guy to pole us around, piled in, and spent the afternoon eating drinking talking and watching the canals slide by. Little kitchen boats paddle up and cook for you [Corn mold tacos. Seriously. Have them if you get the chance]. The also sell you buckets full of beers. Bigger boats full of mariachis sidle up and play requests. It was fantastic.
it totally is
that patch of bricks on the right is a face
